Battle of the Bulge, Monday Weigh-in

battlethebulgeI know today is Wednesday, but Amber reminded me about a final post for the Battle of the Bulge Challenge. Final post?! Well, since I had already started posting my Weigh-ins on Mondays just before she set us up on this challenge, I will continue to post (and hopefully she will too!).

This Monday’s weigh-in was much better than LAST Monday. This Monday I was down 1.6#. I have “hit my 10# goal”–again, for the second time. Actually, in total I am down 20# from my heaviest, which I did not allow myself to reach this time around before getting back on the program. So I’ve lost 16# since I first put myself back on WW, but it took a lot longer to get it off this time around. Probably has something to do with the fact that I haven’t been writing down what I eat. Still, I am losing and I am watching what I eat better now. I just really want to get back into my size 8’s & 6’s again. They are hanging in the closet, waiting for me. :) I have 30# to go to reach my goal.

The meeting this week was about planning for the holidays. The planning entails sharing recipes, Weight Watcher or altered, for favorite holiday dishes. I am going to run my aunt’s Green Bean Casserole through the recipe builder at WW Online and see how many points it is, versus how the # of points in the altered recipe. I’ll post them both soon! Planning also means knowing what you will eat, before you are faced with all the food. Do you bring some points-friendly side dishes? A veggie tray? Do you set aside the points you know you will need to eat that fantastic dessert your sister always makes? No matter what will eat, you must plan for it. Planning will save you from making big mistakes that will add up to big gains.

This year, I will:

Keep all the cookies we make in the freezer until they are needed.
Only make the GB Casserole for Christmas, rather than both holidays.
Make sure I divide my plate in fourths: 1/2 veggies (salad and cooked veggies), 1/4 protein, 1/4 carb.
Snack on the veggie tray prior to dinner. I tend to overeat things like mashed potatoes & gravy.
Plan for my dessert, even if it means bringing one myself!

Are the holidays really happy if you gain 10#? That is what I am keeping in mind. I will not be happy if I gain it all back. You probably won’t be, either. So let’s not.
