Battle of the Bulge, Monday Weigh-in

2008 November 3

My weigh-in today went better than I expected. I expected to gain. I ate Halloween candy! But I lost, a whole whopping .2#. What would that amount to? 3.2 ounces? If I had decided against wearing the tank top under my top today, would it have been .6#? Capris SURELY would have put me into the -1# range! :D But at least I didn’t gain.

So how did you do? Did you count all the candy points you ate? Did you count any points? I didn’t. I still have not gotten myself back to writing it all down. Lately STRESS + LAZINESS = my not losing like I need to be.

And today, I have a headache, I am dealing with teenage drama (via telephone, today from school) and I really just want to have a nice sit down with some chocolate. Anything chocolate. And maybe with some peanut butter. Butterfingers?

But I lost .2#!!! :)

I just remembered what I forgot to post about my Weight Watcher’s meeting! Today we talked about the upcoming holidays. Our leader asked how many of us have an old family recipe that we always make during the holidays. She then asked “How many of the OLD FAMILY comes to your house for the holidays? If you’re the only one from the old family, who do you make that recipe FOR?” Hmmm. I hadn’t thought about it that way before. I am the only one from my mother’s family, and I DO make one family recipe for every holiday that I host (which is usually Christmas Eve dinner). If I’m the only one from the “old family”, why do I make my aunt’s Green Bean Casserole? I have, in the past few years, changed the recipe and lightened it up a bit. As much as I can lighten it, points-wise, and still have it taste pretty much the same. The basic recipe is:
1 can of cream of mushroom soup and 2 cans of French Style green beans
1 bag of frozen onion rings, partially thawed & cut in small pieces
1# bacon, fried crisp and crumbled, and save 3 Tbls. of grease
(There might be milk in this recipe, I can’t remember offhand.)
Mix this all together, including the bacon grease, and bake.
The altered recipe substitutes Liquid Smoke for the bacon & bacon grease. I also use the fat free Cream of Mushroom soup, and half the bag of onion rings. I have never run these two recipes through the recipe builder on WWonline, but I am curious to see how many points it is, and how many the alterations shaved off. And this recipe doubled will easily serve 14 at a big holiday dinner.

I have to say though, that I really do make this recipe for me. I love this recipe. LOVE IT. I eat this instead of the stuffing, because I’m really not crazy about stuffing anyway. Maybe this year I’ll ask the family–as in the ones who eat here– if they want me to make it. If they say yes, then I will. Otherwise, maybe I’ll skip it. Maybe.
