Snowy days
This week has been one snowy day after another. Here in Eastern WA, we don’t usually get much snow. Sure, we might get a few inches over a weekend or something, and then it usually just melts away. Last year was stange too, because although we didn’t get a LOT of snow, it froze and stayed on the ground for 47 days, which I hear is a record. Frozen snow does not make good snowmen.
This year though, we have been hit with waves of snowstorms. My older kids are split between 2 high schools / 2 school districts. Monday was a snow day, the first snow day since 1996 here. We didn’t find out until 6:45am, and the girls were all dressed and nearly ready to go catch the bus. All 4 teens were happy to put their jammies back on and go back to bed. I thought about not telling them, hehe, but they might consider that mean.
“Oh honey, I’m sorry, did I forget to tell you there is no school today? Wow, how long did you wait for the bus?” Naahhh.
So there was no school Monday, Tuesday they had school (and we got 4″ of snow yesterday, causing one high school to close early), and today is once again, a snow day, but only for 2 of the kids. My dear stepson G was THRILLED to know that he had to go to school today. Well, not exactly thrilled. More like disappointed.
Do you think, with 3 teens home today, that I will even TRY to get any school done with the younger kids? Um, no. I know better than to even try. I think I’ll go get a haircut instead.
Meanwhile, we have 9 inches of snow in our yard, with another big storm scheduled to come in tonight. I see a family of snowmen in my children’s future, and I’m predicting the snow fort that has been built over the last week will grow in size. If it would only snow on the lawns and NOT on the roads! THAT would really be something, wouldn’t it?

All this talk of snow reminds me of my days in NYC and Stamford (CT)…didn’t have any kids then so was not so hard.
Then we moved back to India..it’s heaven here from that point of view, no snow and plenty of help!
Yep, now we have two kids of own own, the snow is more of an interest. You might be interested to read my blog… It covers lots of stuff, and comes from the point of view of one between jobs! Mr Workhope. http://www.workhope.wordpress.com
